Toyota Nigeria Limited has announced intentions to launch three electric cars in the nation over the next three years as part of its support for the government’s Green Deal project.
Mr. Kunle Ade-Ojo, Managing Director of TNL, said this on Friday at a press conference at the TNL’s first Toyota Motor Show.
He mentioned Toyota hybrid electric cars coming to Nigeria shortly, such as the Toyota Cross, RAV4, and Land Cruiser Prado.
Ade-Ojo said, “By the end of this year, we will introduce our first hybrid electric car, Toyota Cross. Next year, we’ll debut the RAV4 hybrid. And late next year or early 2026, we’ll be introducing the Land Cruiser Prado hybrid,” he said.
He also said that TNL will offer its extensive network of workshops to the Federal Government’s drive to promote the usage of compressed natural gas-powered automobiles via conversion.
“We are almost concluding arrangements with different partners to use our network of workshops for vehicle conversion to CNG-powered,” he informed us.
The TNL MD remembered that last year, Nigeria sold around 10,000 new automobiles, with Toyota accounting for approximately 1,500 units.
He said that about 15,000 new automobiles were expected to be sold in Nigeria this year, and that Toyota was on track to quadruple its previous year’s record.
The private motor show included a car exhibition, two new Toyota product releases, unique after-sales packages, test drives, and engaging encounters.
The three-day exhibition (June 27-29) was hosted in Lekki, with a setting and atmosphere reminiscent of major motor shows in Europe and America.
Outside the hall, but inside the elaborately adorned event center for the Toyota show, there was an international test-drive arena for consumers who wanted to have a feel for any of the vehicles.
Apart from TNL MD Ade-Ojo, additional TNL officials were on the ground, providing information about each of the cars on exhibit as well as after-sales support.
Ade-Ojo personally guided business clients, including high government officials and important CEOs of big corporations, through the various portions.
Speaking to media earlier, he said, “This show is for all Toyota customers and other Nigerians interested in purchasing Toyota vehicles.”
“While we’re still participating in other shows, this solo Toyota Motor Show will enable us to concentrate on our customers’ needs, giving them a view of our range of vehicles and letting them to know other things we can do for them in terms of after-sale service, spare parts availability and body and paint as well as other value-adding services.”
The exhibition, he said, provided the TNL team with the chance to “have one-on-one interaction with our customers without any distraction; free diagnosis on customers’ vehicles and a test drive, all taking place in a quiet and comfortable environment.”
Ade-Ojo, who also spoke with the CEOs, expressed pleasure with the attendance and result of the event.
He said, “It was a fantastic excursion. Everyone liked the opportunity to connect one-on-one with our staff.
“The after-sales section has been of particular interest to consumers who have visited. “The free diagnosis was well received.” Belta and Rumion were the two models introduced during the exhibition.
